Why PDFs get locked
Many programs add permission restrictions automatically when exporting, which can block you from printing your own payslip or copying text from your own report. Unlocking creates an unrestricted copy so you can work with it normally.

What gets removed
Unlocking removes the encryption layer that enforces permissions, so you can print at full quality, copy text, fill forms and add comments again. The pages themselves are not changed in any way. Processing happens locally with qpdf in WebAssembly, which means unlocking is fast, works offline once the page has loaded and never sends your document anywhere. Please only unlock documents you have the right to use.
