Watermarking best practices

A diagonal, semi-transparent watermark at 20–30% opacity deters copying without making the document hard to read. For brand marks, a small logo in a corner looks more professional than a large one in the middle.

Combine watermarking with Encrypt PDF to block editing, or add headers and footers for document titles and dates.

Choosing the right watermark

Text watermarks such as DRAFT, SAMPLE or CONFIDENTIAL communicate the status of a document instantly. Image watermarks work best with a transparent PNG logo so only the mark itself appears on the page. Use the tiled position to cover the whole page with a repeating pattern, which is much harder to crop out of screenshots. Watermarking runs in your browser, so you can stamp several confidential files at once without uploading them.
